เนื้อเรื่องกล่าวถึงเด็กหญิงคนหนึ่งที่ถูกพ่อเลี้ยงบังคับให้เดินขายไม้ขีดไฟ ท่ามกลางความหนาวเย็นในคืนวันส่งท้ายปีเก่า เด็กหญิงกำลังจะทุกข์ทรมานเนื่องจากความหิวและความหนาวเย็น เธอจึงจุดไม้ขีดไฟเพื่อให้ความอบอุ่นกับร่างกาย เมื่อเธอจุดไม้ขีดไฟแต่ละก้าน เธอก็ได้ระลึกถึงความสุขที่เคยมี ความรักที่เคยได้รับจากคุณยายที่เสียชีวิตไปแล้ว ในเช้าวันปีใหม่ ชาวเมืองที่เดินผ่านมาได้พบกับร่างไร้ชีวิตของเด็กหญิง กับก้านไม้ขีดไฟที่ถูกจุดแล้วอยู่รอบตัวเธอ

เป็นเรื่องราวนิทานในวัยเด็กที่ ดูหรืออ่านมานานแล้ว ทำให้ผมนึกถึงเมื่ออากาศหนาวช่วงปีใหม่ปีนี้ 2011

เลยยกคำหนึ่งขึ้นมาเพื่อจะอธิบายคำถามนั้น ” เรื่องจริงที่ว่าเราเลิกกันแล้ว ” ความหมายมันถูกสร้างให้อยู่ในสองส่วน

คือเรื่องจริงที่เกิดขึ้น กับ เรื่องที่ผมคิดเอง (สิ่งที่ไม่เกิดขึ้นจริง)

มันเหมือนกับความฝันที่สร้างไม่เสร็จ….หลังจากนั้นผมก็สร้างโลกของผมเองในความฝัน มันถูกตัดเข้ามาในโลกนี้เป็นบางครั้ง

ผมคิดว่า…….โลกที่ไม่มีจริง เกิดขึ้นทั้งตอนนอนและตอนตื่น

ช่วงเวลาที่ผมใช้อยู่ในโลกไหนโลกหนึ่งนานเกินไป……..ทำให้ตัวผมเองห่างจาก……..อีกโลกหนึ่ง

แต่ทั้งหมดนั้นมีประโยชน์ต่อตัวผมเองมาก ทำให้ผมเข้าใจ ตัวเองมากขึ้น

วันเวลาที่เดินไปข้างหน้า …แต่บางอย่างในตัวผมมันเดินตามเวลานั้นไม่ทัน

ผมเองที่เคลื่อนที่ช้าลง ……… อาจเพราะว่าเป้าหมายที่ไม่ชัดเจน หรือว่า เพราะรอบางอย่าง

แต่สิ่งหนึ่งที่เข้าใจ  คือ หน่วยนับ ของความสุข และความทุกข์นั้น แยกออกจากกัน

ไม่สามารถ นำมาหักออกหรือทดแทนได้

ความทุกข์ยังคงเหมือนเดิม และความสุขก็ยังมีมาให้ได้รับ

…
